A Marine Corps officer was the victim of a fatal motorcycle crash on Sunday, September 13, 2009, close to San Diego when his motorcycle crashed along the rural roads in East San Diego County near Julian.
Cpl. Marleea A. Gerfen, 21, was from Lake Illinois, Ill., and was a helicopter mechanic assigned to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 16 based at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego. A news release by officials released this information. Gerfen had been riding her motorcycle along Highway 79 southbound just before 3:45 p.m. when the country road that winds along south of Julian brought her to her death. She fell off at a curve and collided with a dirt berm, as San Diego County Sheriff’s Department reported. Emergency crews that responded to the incident worked to revive her, but to no avail. She was pronounced within an hour.
