A 36-year old motorcyclist lost his life in a fatal San Diego motorcycle accident that took place on March 19, 2010, at a Balboa Park intersection. This DUI accident took place around 1 p.m.
The deceased motorcycle rider was riding southbound on Florida Drive when a 2005 Volvo sedan suddenly pulled out into his path and crashed into him. The motorcyclist was hurled onto the roadway where he was hit by a second vehicle. The rider, whose name was withheld pending family notification, died at the scene. The driver of the sedan was arrested by the San Diego Police Department on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and vehicular manslaughter.
Our office offers our prayers and condolences to the family and friends of the motorcyclist. We can understand it is extremely traumatic for them to come to terms with the loss of a family member and friend. The real tragedy here is that this accident was completely avoidable. Driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs has caused thousands of traffic accidents, but still people do not learn. Drunk drivers should be punished to the fullest extent of the law, particularly repeat offenders.
