A 50-year old man was killed when the motorcycle he was riding was hit by an SUV. The motorcyclist has been identified as Lawrence Joseph Barrett of Youngsville, NC. The accident occurred at 4:50 p.m. on April 11 along Elm Avenue near the intersection with South White Street.
Barrett’s 2008 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was headed westbound on Elm Avenue when it collided with a 2005 Ford Freestyle that was traveling north. Tiffany Privette Aldridge, a 35-year-old woman, was driving the Ford. She told police that she did not see Barrett prior to the collision. According to witnesses, Barrett laid down his motorcycle just before the collision.
The accident is still being probed.
Our office offers our heartfelt prayers and condolences to Barrett’s friends and family. It is often said that riding a motorcycle is very dangerous. One should be very careful while riding a motorcycle and should be fully aware of other vehicles on the road. However, the opposite is just as true if not more so: car drivers must be aware of motorcyclists who do not have the protection of their vehicle to shield them from injury and cannot make quick maneuvers to avoid accidents.
